A. Mozart Fest Musician Biographies Dr. Hanns-Bertold and Marlee Dietz
Hanns-Bertold Dietz (Ph.D., musicology and art history) is Professor Emeritus of the School of Music, The University of Texas at Austin. He served as Visiting Professor at the University of Innsbruck, Austria, the Baylor University Summer Organ Institute, Freiburg, Germany, and as lecturer in piano literature at the Adamant School of Music, Adamant, Vermont. A scholar of international reputation, he is the author of Die Chorfuge bei Georg Friedrich Händel, of numerous articles concerning late 17th through early 19th-century music, and over thirty entries particularly on 18th-century Neapolitan composers for several international encyclopedias. His research has been supported by grants from the Fulbright Commission, the International Research and Exchanges Board, the American Council of Learned Societies, and the University of Texas Research Institute. During his tenure at the University of Texas he supervised 48 Master’s theses and doctoral dissertations, and was the recipient of three Teaching Excellence Awards. Dr. Dietz is currently teaching a course on Classical Music at the Lifetime Learning Institute in Austin, TX. Marlee Glodzik Dietz is a well-known Austin pianist and piano teacher. A native of Vermont, she studied with the late Edwine Behre of New York City, founder of the Adamant Music School, and with John Perry at the University of Texas at Austin, where she received both her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees. She has played numerous solo recitals in New York, New England, and Texas, as well as in Austria and Germany. As a chamber musician she has collaborated with various members of the Austin Symphony in concerts around the state. She has served as Artist-in-Residence at the Adamant School of Music, Adamant, VT, and as lecturer in the piano accompanying program at the School of Music of the University of Texas at Austin. She is the recipient of the “Outstanding Pre-Collegiate Teaching Achievement” and “Teacher of the Year” awards in the Austin chapter of the Music Teachers National Association.
